Deadliest Sharks

All sharks are typically seen as killers by us humans. However that is not the case. In truth there are only 4 or 5 species of sharks that will attack out of nature, other species are only known to attack when being provoked.

1. Great White Shark

Attacks: 400+

Fatilities: 74

2. Tiger Shark

Attacks: 155

Fatilities: 29

3. Bull Shark

Attacks: 104

Fatilities: 26

4. Oceanic Whitetip

Attacks: unknown

Fatilities: unknown

5. Shortfin Mako

Attacks: 45

Fatilities: 3

(All statistics taken from Planet Deadly)

Apart from the Great White Shark all others are naturally aggressive and opportunistic leading to most of their attacks. Great Whites, Tiger Sharks and Bull Sharks are known by many to be the most deadly. Oceanic Whitetips and Shortfin Mako do not pose much threat to our coastlines as they typically stick to deaper oceans around the world.

(Statistics on Oceanic Whitetips are scarce due to the opportunisic nature of their attacks. For example in WW2 when ships got sunk the Oceanic Whitetips would attack and eat any surviors. None of these deaths were reported as shark attack deaths).

(Many attacks carried out by Bull Sharks in 3rd world countries are never reported)
